We Wish You a Merry Christmas!

We Wish You a Merry Christmas!

Category: Uncategorised    Date: 21st December 2016

As I write this blog the festive season is well under way and there are only a few more sleeps until Christmas Day.  In the midst of all the hustle and bustle I wanted to take a moment to reflect on, and say a big thank you, to all staff at Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service for their hard work throughout the year.

Our Firefighters, Regional Control Centre and Support staff have all shown the utmost dedication, commitment and loyalty and I want to thank each and every one of you for all that you have done – helping to protect and keep people safe across Northern Ireland – over the past year.

As many people are starting to wind down for Christmas and to look forward to a break with their family and friends, this is traditionally one of our busiest times.  If last Christmas was anything to go by, this year will be no exception.

Last year we received 1,545 calls and attended 1,005 incidents from 20th December – 6 January 2016. We were at the scene of 45 road traffic collisions and 49 house fires.  Tragically we dealt with 5 fatalities over the Christmas period.

This year as you tuck into your Christmas dinner and relax with loved ones, spare a thought for all those who are working and missing out on time spent with their families.  I want to acknowledge all those families who have been affected as a result of missed nativity plays, rescheduled or cancelled nights out and Christmas celebrations that aren’t quite complete – your support is vital to us.  We know the sacrifices that you make in enabling us to do our job and we send you our heartfelt thanks!

As we near the end of year and the start of 2017 I wish you all a safe and peaceful year ahead.

Merry Christmas & a happy New Year!

Best wishes,
